Brianna Moglianesi '19 Named Delegate to Congress of Future Medical Leaders

This summer, Brianna Moglianesi '19 traveled to Boston as a nominated delegate to attend the Congress of Future Medical Leaders. The Congress is an honors-only program for high school students who want to go into medical careers, with only one student chosen from each state in the U.S.

To be considered for this program, Moglianesi was nominated by Dr. Mario Capecchi, winner of the Nobel Prize in Medicine and the Science Director of the National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists. Moglianesi was chosen for having exceptional academic achievement, leadership potential and the desire to serve in the medical field.

"Both of my parents are dentists,” Brianna explains. “I have been around their office and have helped out and I see how they interact with people and it always made me want to consider the medical field as a profession."

Brianna heard from and met with a wide variety of remarkable professionals within the medical community during the three-day conference, including Nobel Prize winners and deans at high-ranking colleges. The main objective of the speakers was to inspire and encourage the next generation of medical professionals.

"It definitely got me more interested and committed to a medical profession," said Brianna. "There were so many amazing speakers but my favorite was Olivia Hallisey. Hallisey was the Grand Prize winner at the 2015 Google Science Fair for developing a new Ebola test that allows people to conduct tests right in the field. Usually tests need to be refrigerated and are expensive but this new test only costs around $5. She is looking to do the same with Lyme disease and it was just amazing and inspiring."

Along with volunteering at Overlook Hospital during the past three years, Moglianesi is a mainstay on the Gill campus. She is in high honors courses, Art Club, Math League, is an Admission Ambassador and a captain on the varsity fencing team. Brianna's long-term plans after she graduates from Gill include pursuing a career in medicine or dentistry.
